Stretch Therapy
What is stretch therapy?
Stretch Therapy is a form of therapy that involves deep, assisted, passive stretching. It works to improve range of motion, reduce pain, and improve blood flow to the muscles and connective tissue that surround each joint.
It is ideal for those looking to improve tension associated with muscle and joint stiffness, increase range of motion for daily life or sports performance, and generally anyone who wants to move better.
At Axon Chiropractic and Rehab, stretch therapy is performed by a licensed Chiropractor, Dr. Perrin Yiu, and is covered by insurance plans under chiropractic services.

How is stretch therapy different from yoga or stretching on my own?
Stretch therapy at Axon is assisted, passive stretching performed by a licensed chiropractor, Dr. Perrin Yiu. Unlike yoga or static self-stretching, it uses techniques such as PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) to access deeper muscle tension. The practitioner guides your body through precise movements while you relax, allowing for greater range of motion gains than self-stretching typically achieves.
What conditions or problems does stretch therapy help with?
Stretch therapy is beneficial for chronic muscle tightness or stiffness, limited range of motion in the hips, shoulders, or spine, recovery from sports injuries, postural imbalances from desk work or sedentary lifestyles, and general performance improvement for athletes. It is also popular among those who feel chronically tense and are looking for relief without medication.
How many stretch therapy sessions will I need?
Many clients notice improvements in flexibility and reduced tension after just one session. For lasting results, a series of sessions is typically recommended. Dr. Yiu will outline a suggested plan after your initial assessment based on your specific goals and current range of motion.
Can stretch therapy help with sports performance?
Absolutely. Stretch therapy is widely used by athletes to improve functional range of motion, reduce injury risk, and speed up recovery between training sessions. Whether you are a runner with tight hip flexors, a weightlifter with restricted shoulder mobility, or returning from an injury, a targeted stretch session can complement your training program significantly.
